It is with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of commitment that I announce my candidacy for the upcoming Frankston City Council election. My name is Justin Turner, and I am honored to stand before you as a dedicated resident who has called Frankston North home for the past 14 years.

My professional journey has been deeply intertwined with the heartbeat of Frankston. Successfully running two local businesses and currently serving as an account manager in the industrial sector, I have had the privilege of witnessing the strengths and challenges that define our beloved city.

I am running for City Council because I believe in future-proofing Frankston, embracing sustainable development while preserving the essence of what makes our community unique. Our iconic beach, public spaces, and precious wetlands are not just assets; they are a part of our identity, and I am committed to safeguarding them for future generations.

My vision for Frankston is rooted in the fundamentals—a return to the basics that matter most. Roads, rates, and rubbish, along with the management of hard rubbish, are the building blocks upon which a thriving city stands. By focusing on these essentials and getting the basics right, we can lay a solid foundation for growth, prosperity, and a council that truly serves the needs of its residents.

A stringent overview will be a key focus to ensure that the right funding is directed to the right community groups. By maintaining this level of oversight, we can guarantee that our resources are being used effectively to support the diverse needs of our community.

I am committed to keeping rates fair and ensuring every dollar spent delivers value for money. By maintaining fiscal responsibility, we can support the growth of our city and the well-being of its residents.

I am excited about the potential we have as a city, and I am determined to bring my experience, dedication, and passion to the Frankston City Council. Together, let's build a future for Frankston that is sustainable, vibrant, and reflective of the values we hold dear.

I look forward to engaging with you, listening to your concerns, and working collaboratively to shape a better Frankston for us all.

2. Are you a member of a political party, or are you endorsed or affiliated with a political party?

Yes I am a member of the Liberal Party

3. What do you see as the key issues facing Frankston City?

1.Housing supply 2. Business Support, 3. Wasteful Spending 4. Rate costs 5. Unfocused on the three key areas of council ie Roads, Rates and Rubbish - too interested in state/federal and global issues.

4. What skills and experience will you bring to your role if elected to Frankston City Council?

5. The Frankston Metropolitan Activity Centre (FMAC) is a significant framework developed by the previous Frankston City council. Do you support the FMAC, and, what would you do to help attract further private and public investment into Frankston’s city centre?

Yes, I support the FMAC. I would continue to advocate for less red tape (responsibly) to ensure that Frankston remains a daughter after investment opportunity.

6. What do you believe local government can do to help retain jobs in Frankston City, attract new businesses to establish themselves in Frankston, and ensure residents have jobs close to where they live?

Offer support services to new businesses from the onset of a lease to advice and peer training to assist in startups to thrive. Advocate and advertise state and federal grants so that business can access these. Secondly, focus on mixed use buildings to have an instant customer base and office space to give an option for potential businesses to open within the city.

7. What role do you believe local government can play to help Frankston City reach the Victorian Government’s ambitious housing targets of 36,000 new dwellings by 2050?

Continue to develop framework that encourages sustainable development and buildings of note to the area, in turn create a city of choice, thus enabling more progression. This must be done considerately to have buildings that are a feature to our changing city, encompass mixed use and allow for business entry and growth

8. Why should ratepayers vote for you?

I am here for Frankston. I only want to see a cohesive council that is poised for progression, accountability, transparency and efficiency. These fundamentals will ensure a progressive and prosperous future for Frankston and create a place that others can be just as proud of living in as I am. I want my children to choose to live here and in fact I want everyone’s families to have this same opportunity.

9. If you are elected, what would you like your legacy to be at the end of your four year term?

That I’ve made Frankston better, that as a council we’ve made Frankston a city that creates opportunities, looks after its most vulnerable, cares for its elderly and is a place of choice not circumstance.

10. How important to you is the relationship between Frankston City and the Committee for Frankston & Mornington Peninsula? What would you do as a councilor to maintain and improve that relationship?

It’s a relationship that’s not given enough attention, in my opinion. The opportunity to network the C4GF and potential businesses and furthermore as a resource into business for our city is priceless and should be collaborated closely and long term relationships fostered.

To finish, do you have any additional comments?

At the end of the day I can’t promise to change the world. I’m just a local that wants to represent my home, to make it better, vibrant, sustainable and future proof it. I’ve been a business owner twice in our city, I’ve been an involved member of my community for over a decade and I’ve shared the success and sorrow that our city has endured. I can bring Experience , Honesty, Integrity and Results .
