Committee backs Independent Schools Fight for Fairness
This week we facilitated an online forum with Shadow Minister for Education Matt Bach MP and school members of the Committee for Mornington Peninsula including Toorak College, Woodleigh School and Balcombe Grammar School.
Independent schools on the Mornington Peninsula will likely have payroll tax exemptions removed in changes announced in last month's State Budget.
As reported in recent weeks, this will affect some schools by more than $1 million.
Families on the Mornington Peninsula work hard to send their kids to great, local independent schools.
We will continue to work with our these schools, Members of Parliament, and the Victorian Government to advocate for the best interests for education in our region.
UPDATE: The Andrews Government announced on 29 June that the threshold for schools affected will be those that charge fees of $15,000 per student or more. We are pleased this will now mean a number of schools on the Peninsula will not be affected, however, the Committee will continue to argue the case that schools on the Peninsula that are affected should be treated like other regional schools as identified by the Department of Education and not the payroll tax map boundary of Metropolitan Melbourne.
