School Leaders address politicians ahead of Federal Election
On Monday, 31 March the Committee was pleased to present our first annual School Leaders Presentation Breakfast; hosted at Toorak College, where Year 12 leaders from across Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula responded to the following prompt in front of the major candidates at this year's Federal Election.
“This federal election, the Australian Government’s number one priority should be…”
Participating CFMP Member schools included Peninsula Grammar, Toorak College, Woodleigh School, Balcombe Grammar, Flinders Christian
College, Foundation College, Mornington Secondary College and Frankston High School.
School leaders made compelling presentations on a wide-array of topics that were important to them and young people on the peninsula, including:
- Violence against women
- Climate Crisis and Climate Change
- Youth disengagement with politics
- Funding and support for the arts
- Cost of living challenges for young people
- Mental health support and funding
- Student University debts
- Energy and nuclear power
- Economic opportunities for young people
- Rental affordability and homelessness

The Committee is determined to empower the leading voices in our region and enable them to influence change in the halls of Parliament.
Engaging and listening to the young people on the peninsula is an important part of the political process. Many of these students in the room will be voting for the first time in just a few weeks.
This event enabled tomorrow’s leaders to address a room-full of politicians, local government officials, and local business leaders.
Young people bring new ideas, creativity, and innovative solutions to challenges our region faces.
Their engagement with you here today will also give our young leaders significant confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of community responsibility – making them more than likely to contribute to our community, state and country in a positive way.
The Committee really valued the insights from students, their frankness and bold ambitions for the years ahead, and we know all of you will make strong contributions to our community, state and country following year 12.
We wish all students on the Peninsula the very best in their VCE this year, and congratulate them on their outstanding contributions.

Thank you to all MP's and federal candidates for attending: Zoe McKenzie MP, Chris Crewther MP, Sarah Race, Nathan Conroy and Ben Smith.
And of course, thank you to Toorak College for hosting. We look forward to next year's School Leader Presentations.
